About

The Church in South Denver

The Church in South Denver is all about helping others to find God’s purpose for living. Whether you are curious about Christianity or have been living the life for some time, South has a place for you to live, serve and worship. We are a non-denominational, independent congregation of Christ-followers.

South exists to Love God, Love Others and to LOVE...

Some of South’s Core Beliefs

  • Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God came to Earth, died for our sins, and arose from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)
  • The Bible is God’s words. God chose to communicate with us by revealing his truth to human authors who recorded it for our use today.  (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • Every person has worth as a creation of God, but we have individually chosen to disobey what we know to be his truth. (Romans 3:23)
  • Restoring our relationship with God is only possible through his grace. ( Ephesians 2:8-9).
  • Our decision to accept God’s grace is made through our belief and confession of him as our Savior and Lord (Romans 10:9-10), our decision to turn away from sin and to live by his values (repentance) and by being baptized in water to have our past washed away (Acts 2:38).
  • The Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit.  It exists to reach those who are seeking with his good news of forgiveness, and to help his followers grow to be more like him. (Matthew 28: 19-20, Ephesians 4:1-16)
  • Jesus Christ will return one day to take His followers to be with him for eternity. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

South Denver Commitments

Selflessly devoted to loving others
1 John 4:7 “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
Hebrews 10:25 “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

As a church we will strive to love others with the kind of love that Christ displayed to us.  One way that we will love others is by developing close relationships with people in and also new to the church. By living our lives together as any family would do, involving forgiveness, accountability, mercy, encouragement, sacrifice, etc. Being selfless also involves giving generously and acting in service to those who are in need so that as the body of Christ we can be a light to the world.

Desperately attached to God
John 16:7 “But I tell you the truth: it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”
Acts 17:27 “God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each of us.”
Ephesians 5:19  “Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.”

God has called us to seek Him in a profound way with an active relationship. As a church it is not enough for us to seek God only on Sunday mornings or only in the privacy of our homes. Rather, we take every opportunity to interact with God through salvation from the Son, praise to our Father, and an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Being People of the Book
2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
Hebrews 12:4 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

We as a church and as individuals will elevate the Bible to be the ultimate authority in our lives. As we work to shape every aspect of our lives, we will use God’s Word as our guide. As we seek to know God more and more we will use the Word of God. As we look for wisdom, hope, encouragement, correction, etc. we will look for it in the Word of God.

Relentlessly making followers of Christ
Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
Matthew 9:37,38 “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
2 Corinthians 5:20 “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

One of the things that we will be dedicated to as a church is being attractive and relevant to those who don’t know Christ. As a church, we will make sure we are following God’s command to make disciples and to do that, we must make it easy for people to find Christ.

Build thriving families centered on Christ
Joshua 24:15 “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
1 Timothy 5:8  “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

As a church we value families as God has directed us to. In order to make sure we are building thriving families we will ensure there are quality programs for all the members of the family: Children, Teens, Moms, Dads, Husbands, Wives, etc. We feel it is important to guide families to put Christ at the center and to be a church that makes it easy for families to get involved, not, be overwhelmed.
